Sugarbrook Blue Pacific x Apricot Hill
2005 Welsh crossbred mare, 13.1 hh perm card, USEF #5104931
Sugarbrook Arctic Blue (McKinley) was purchased in May 2009 as a green prospect for our daughter Megan.
Because we have been busy showing Mt Ridge Countess, McKinley has been brought along slowly and has
shown lightly. We schooled her at the first RMI Mid-Florida show in April, then decided to show her at the next
show (and to get her permanent card). Megan's instructions were to let her have a quiet ride, and to trot if
necessary. To our surprise, they ended up Champion in the Children's Pony Hunter division! We took her to the
next show, and she was Champion again! They ended up RMI Spring Circuit Champions in the Childrens Pony
We spent the summer working on getting McKinley properly broke. She may have been Champion at RMI, but it
was done on a loose rein where she luckily found the distances out of the turns and didn't get penalized for
getting down the lines too far a few times. We showed her one day at Jacksonville, where it was rainy and the
course was spooky (set as the prep show for Maclay Regionals), and we opted to trot a few jumps to school her
and just try to see where she was at.
McKinley is now quite well broke, able to lengthen and shorten to the jumps, with auto changes. She will be a
lovely green medium pony hunter in 2012. Sadly, our daughter has continued to grow very quickly and it has
become clear that she will not be able to compete McKinley next year (or at least that she won't look very good
doing it!). Therefore, we have decided to sell McKinley now as a green-eligible medium pony. The new purchaser
can spend the remainder of 2011 competing in the Children's pony (or Schooling Ponies at 2'3") to get ready to
be a superstar in 2012! Very reasonably priced. She has been tried by short stirrup riders and was very sweet
and did an excellent job of "staying under" the rider (i.e., adding the careful chip when the child leaned and
looked down, etc.). Please call 352-266-4669 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
There is a full YouTube video of her competing at RMI Mid-Florida IV this summer.
